Domestic Violence Attorney in Cherry Hill, NJ
Regardless of What Side of the Dispute You Are On – You Have Rights
Domestic violence claims are extremely serious. To protect the victim, the accused person is often removed from the home and a restraining order is issued. Whatever side of the dispute you are on, you have rights, and an experienced attorney can help protect them.
My name is Lois Garber Schwartz, and I am a Camden County divorce lawyer with more than 35years of experience. I have represented victims of domestic abuse as well as those accused of abuse throughout Southern New Jersey. I understand how difficult and sensitive these situations are. I will work diligently to have your case resolved in a way that is reasonable for you and your family.
Protecting Your Interests
Many domestic violence claims are genuine, and I fight aggressively to make sure the rights of abused spouses and children are protected. There are cases, however, where allegations of domestic violence are unfounded. I have been involved in situations, for example, where a spouse made domestic violence accusations to try to gain an advantage in a divorce or a child custody case.
Restraining Orders and Alternatives
Many domestic violence cases end with some form of restraining order issued against the person charged with domestic violence. One result is the issuing of a Final Restraining Order (FRO). Another possible resolution is a Civil Restraining Order (CRO). A CRO results in the dismissal of the domestic violence complaint in exchange for certain concessions. For example, the accused person may agree not to return to the marital home rather than have an FRO issued against him or her.
I will take the time to explain restraining orders and their alternatives when you meet with me. I will always discuss with you the strengths and weaknesses of your case in order to assist you in making decisions.
