Female Military Divorce Rate on the Rise
According to statistics from a recent study by Military.com, the divorce rate among female military service members has risen 0.4 percent over the course of just one year. The percentage of divorce has risen to 6.6 percent from 6.2 percent just a year earlier. On the other hand, the amount of male service members undergoing divorce remained the same at 2.6 percent – a percentage which has remained unchained for over four years.
The Marine Corps is the branch that has shown the highest change in this regard, with both men and women experiencing an increase in a five-year period. Male marine divorce rates jumped from 2.3 percent to 2.8 percent, while female marines had a divorce rate of 7.7 percent, a staggering increase from 6.4 percent.
Pentagon spokesman Army. Lt. Col Myles Caggins said in a statement regarding the divorce rate: “Military families are unique and make tremendous sacrifices on behalf of their loved ones in uniform. Strong relationships are important to our readiness, and the Defense Department provides a wide range of support for our troops and their family members. At times, the military life brings the joys of promotions, stress of deployments, and adventure of travel; along each step of the journey, military family members are a bedrock of support and encouragement. We value them.”
