New Jersey law predicates that property acquired during the marriage, regardless of how it is titled, is marital property and subject to division between the parties. The process, called equitable distribution, is intended to address all financial issues surrounding the marriage, including distribution of marital assets and tax exemptions for children, as well as debts of the marriage and other issues.
